Water Shortage in India.

Image
Manikandan remembers bathing with friends in the well near his house as though it were yesterday. But as the years passed, the well in Coimbatore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu dried up, as did the stream in Manikandan’s neighborhood. One year, when the stream remained dry even after heavy rains, the bike mechanic decided to find out what had gone wrong. He and a friend took a bike ride to trace the stream’s route. They found a defunct check dam in its path — hence the rainwater flowed into the ocean. It was the first of multiple water-shortage challenges that Manikandan would resolve to fix. Tamil Nadu, which is south India’s largest state, and its capital Chennai — with a population of close to 10 million people — have hit global headlines in recent years for both devastating floods (2015) and crippling droughts (2018). The floods rendered thousands of people homeless overnight, and the drought was one of the worst the state — which has 39,000 bodies of water — h...

Ancient culture and traditions inherent to Ayurveda,

In the current times when we fall sick we go to a doctor trained in the modern (allopathic) system of medicine. The thought of going to someone trained in alternative medicine usually does not come to our mind as allopathy has established itself as the conventional system of medicine in the current times. However, alternative systems of medicine do exist and can benefit us by preventing as well as curing various diseases and ailments. One such system is Ayurveda, which evolved thousands of years ago in India. In this article we will see the principles of Ayurveda, how it developed, compare it with allopathy and see why it is important to know about and study  Ayurvedic  treatment for the coming times. Definition The name Ayurveda is derived from the two syllables,  ayur  meaning life and  veda  meaning knowledge. So, Ayurveda means knowledge about living a healthy life. Allopathic medicine treats only the disease, but Ayruveda i...

T he Novel Coronavirus pandemic has hit 150 countries, affecting over 800,000 people and leaving several thousand dead. And the count keeps goings up, every single day. Even as the world waits for the curve to flatten, for a drug cure to be found and a vaccine to be discovered, many are facing the prospect of unemployment, job loss and social disruption. The pandemic is uncharted territory for the hospitality industry. While most industries have been badly impacted and world economies are in recession, it is the hospitality and travel industries that have been crippled globally. Industries that depend on people travelling, for work and pleasure. With over half of the world's population under lockdown due to COVID-19, the crisis that began sometime in early December in China, before spreading its tangled web across the world, will continue to unfold for a while. The potential losses and disruptions India’s hospitality industry was on overdrive before things went downhill: ...

#Water #Coolingtower #Descale #Dissolved #Disinfection #Algae   Water  is becoming more and more scare, and where facilitie s are already seeing these water shortages,   local regulations about how much water you can draw from your source and discharge will grow more stringent. Industries are  using cooling towers to remove heat from an industrial process/machines  or for cooling large buildings, there are several issues that can surface during the cooling tower water treatment process that we see on a regular basis. When a cooling tower is running inefficiently, it can require too much makeup water, electricity and cause excess blow down. Since cooling towers remove heat by the process of evaporation, it’s no surprise that they, in turn, can use lots of water to make up the difference. Depending on the quality of makeup water being added to the cooling tower and th...
